A new generation of Omnis Studio has just been released. Omnis Studio Version 4 offers even more features and power than its predecessors, but it usually takes a while to sort out how to best take advantage of such a wide range of improvements. I can shorten this productivity lag for you substantially!
I have reworked my entire set of training courses for Omnis Studio version 4 and will be presenting a great deal of introductory material on that product at the AmerOmnis conference at the end of March and again at OzOmnis in August and EurOmnis later this year. But I realize that not everyone can attend these conferences, so I have also added a special 2-day class to my schedule, designed to bring you up to speed on the new features of Omnis Studio version 4.
I have been invited to New Zealand and Australia to give interested Omnis Studio developers an early in-depth introduction to these new features, but I don't want my fellow developers in North America to feel slighted. So I am also proposing a schedule of presentations at my location in New Hampshire and at Jammin Apparel in Anaheim, California (hosted by Mark Grinde) to try to meet the needs of Omnis developers here. (If you are interested in hosting such a presentation for the benefit of local developers in your region, please get in touch with me so we can add that to the schedule.)
At each location, I offer a 2-day class on the "New Features of Omnis Studio Version 4". Occasionally I will also offer a special 3-day class on more advanced topics in the same week, with a generous discount for attending both sessions. I make every effort to deliver the information at an appropriate level for the people in attendance, so there is plenty of useful material for newcomers as well as for veteran Omnis developers.
The class schedule for the next few months is as follows:
| April 12-13 | Bedford, NH | New Features of Omnis Studio Version 4 |
| May 13-14 | New Features of Omnis Studio Version 4 | |
| May 24-25 | Anaheim, CA | New Features of Omnis Studio Version 4 |
| May 26-28 | Intermediate/Advanced Omnis Studio Techniques | |
| June 14-15 | Bedford, NH | New Features of Omnis Studio Version 4 |
| June 16-18 | Intermediate/Advanced Omnis Studio Techniques | |
| July 8-9 | New Features of Omnis Studio Version 4 |
Here are some details about what will be covered in each course:
New Features Of
|
The topics covered in this session include: using the new IDE; skins (background graphics) for windows, reports and remote forms (and for a component or two); Mac OS X window enhancements (including sheets and drawers); new color system and icon editor (including support for alpha channels in icons); the hypertext link component; secondary (status) icons in icon arrays; report field improvements; report section improvements; inheritance in reports; object reference variables; Java objects; JDBC; style() enhancements (rotated text and baseline control); the new $userinfo property and a wealth of other improvements. |
Intermediate/Advanced Omnis Studio TechniquesThree days $799.00 Prerequisite: Prior programming experience with Omnis Studio |
The curriculum for this course is a bit more open as it is intended to give attendees a chance to have their individual problems resolved - as long as they represent learning opportunities for the general class. Specific items will vary from one class to the next, but subjects discussed are sure to include: Omnis 7 to Omnis Studio conversion; reporting techniques; use of object classes; event management; list operations; client/server programming using V3 DAMs; remote forms and remote tasks; subwindows and subforms; application design and other meaty topics. These sessions have been well received on the two previous trips and those who have submitted their requests for topics beforehand have gotten the most thorough answers to their questions (with examples). But even those questions that suddenly arose in class have been successfully treated. |
Attending both classes in the same week qualifies for a discounted price of $1199.00 - a discount of nearly $200.00 from taking each class separately! Since some companies have requested this in the past, it is now "official" that a company can buy a 5-day slot and then "split" it between two people (one for the 2-day and the other for the 3-day) who work for that same company.
If you are serious about Omnis Studio development, you won't want to miss these classes! Take advantage of this training while it is available!
