The first volume is a combination of a 196-page pdf
document (larger than most are intended to be) and a small set of example
libraries all
packaged in a StuffIt archive. The electronic format was chosen
after much feedback to keep each volume more affordable and to allow for easier
and more timely revisions. The book is formatted for easy viewing on a computer
monitor, but is still a convenient size for printing to hard copy (which the
security settings of the pdf file allow).
The second volume very much follows in the tradition
of the first. It is over 200 pages in length, in spite of efforts to keep
the book smaller.
The third volume is still a bit large at a more manageable 132 pages.
Each additional volume of the Omnis Reference
Library will focus on a specific topic and examine it in depth. The fourth volume on
“Operators, Functions and Expressions ” is well under way.
The plan is to produce a new volume every month or two once enough people are
on the automatic distribution list described in the next paragraph.
“Enough” people is 400, which number of automatic deliveries makes the project
worth devoting significan time to. The retail, post-publication price for each
volume is US$30.00.
As a convenience for dedicated readers of this book series,
David has established a readers’ service he calls “David’s
SmartList”. Members of this service will receive each new
volume as soon as it is released and at a reduced price. For those who
are already
members when a volume is released, that volume is automatically shipped to
them for US$25.00 billed to their credit card on file. Membership is free.
All it
takes to register is to supply your name, address, telephone, email and credit
card information. (Prepayment arrangements can be made for those who have
no credit cards.)
